Counts of active drilling rigs resumed increases in the past week, according to the weekly report of July 31 from Baker Hughes. There were 260 rigs in Permian Basin (up 2 in past week, up 1 in the past year), 273 rigs in Texas (up 1 in past week, up 28 or 11.43 percent in past year) and 588 rigs in U.S. (up 1 in past week, up 48 or 8.89 percent in past year).
New Mexico reported 96 rigs for the third straight week (also 96 a year ago).
Haynesville reported 56 rigs for the second straight week to rank second among regions followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 49 (up 2 in past week, up 10 in past year), Williston with 27 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 25 (up 1 past week). Among states, Oklahoma is third with 50 (unchanged), Louisiana had 38 (up 1 in past week) and North Dakota reported 24 again.
