Counts of active drilling rigs declined for the seventh consecutive week in U.S. and Permian Basin, according to June 13 report from Baker Hughes. There were 273 rigs in Permian (down 2 from 275 week ago, down 36 or 12 percent from 309 year ago) and 555 in U.S. (down 4 from 559 week ago, down 35 or 6 percent from year ago). Both counts are the lowest in 44 months since November 2021.
There were 262 rigs in Texas (down 2 from 264 week ago, down 23 or 8 percent from 285 year ago) and 90 rigs in New Mexico (down 1 from 91 last week, down 18 or 17 percent from 108 year ago).
Eddy County, N.M., lost a rig this week but still leads Permian Basin with 49. Other leaders include Lea, N.M., with 37, Reeves with 30, Martin with 25, Midland with 24, Loving with 20, Upton with 15 (down 1 in past week) and Reagan with 12.
Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 49 (down 1) followed by Louisiana with 31 (unchanged) and North Dakota with 30 (unchanged). Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions with 40 followed by Haynesville with 35, Williston with 31 and Marcellus with 24 – all unchanged in past week.
