Rig counts in Permian Basin and New Mexico remained flat in Baker Hughes’ latest weekly report while counts in Texas and U.S. declined. Baker Hughes said as of Oct. 18 there were 304 rigs in Perman Basin for the third straight week (down 8 from 312 year ago) and 99 in New Mexico for the second straight week (down 2 from 101 year ago). Also, there were 283 in Texas (down 2 from 285 previous week, down from 308 year ago) and 585 in U.S. (down 1 from 586 previous week, down from 624 year ago).
Midland was only county in Permian Basin that reported additional rigs. Lea (49) and Eddy (47) counties in New Mexico are the basin leaders followed by Martin (31), Midland (up 2 to 26), Reeves (25) and Loving (24). Also, Upton has 14, Reagan 13 and Ward 12.
Eagle Ford in south Texas is third among regions with 49 rigs (49 previous week, 50 year ago) followed by Williston with 34, Haynesville with 33 (34 previous week, 40 year ago) and Marcellus with 23. Oklahoma is third among states with 42 rigs (41 previous week, 37 year ago) followed by Louisiana with 38 (unchanged in previous week, down 5 in previous year) and North Dakota with 33 (unchanged in previous week, up 3 in previous year).
