Rig counts resumed their declines for the week that ended June 7 in Permian Basin, Texas and U.S., according to Baker Hughes. In the past week, Texas lost 7 rigs for a new total of 473 (538 a year ago), U.S. lost 9 rigs for a new total of 975 (1,062 a year ago), and Permian Basin lost 6 for a new total of 446 (480 a year ago). New Mexico was unchanged as of June 7 with 101 rigs (90 a year ago). Oil-directed rigs in U.S. declined to 789 (800 last week, 862 last year).
Reeves County with 65 rigs (up 4 in last week) and Eddy, N.M., with 55 rigs (unchanged) remain the top counties in Permian Basin. Others include Lea, N.M., with 43 (down 1), Midland with 42 (down 3), Loving with 34 (down 2), Martin also with 34 (down 3), Howard with 30 (unchanged) and Pecos with 21 (up 1).
Only one of top five states and one of top five regions added rig(s) last week. Rig counts in other leading states as of June 7 include Oklahoma with 101 (102 last week, 140 last year), Louisiana with 68 (64 last week, 59 last year) and North Dakota with 56 (57 last week, 54 last year). Other leading regions include Eagle Ford with 74 rigs (75 last week, 80 last year), Marcellus with 58 (61 last week, 56 last year), Williston with 56 (57 last week, 55 last year) and Haynesville with 53 (51 last week, 54 last year).
