Rig counts unchanged in Permian Basin, Texas and New Mexico

November 12, 2024 by PBOG

Rig counts in Permian Basin, Texas and New Mexico were unchanged in the past week.  In its weekly report of Nov. 8, Baker Hughes said there were 303 rigs in Permian Basin for the second straight week (310 year ago), 281 in Texas for the second straight week (302 year ago) and 100 in New Mexico for the third straight week (105 year ago).  Also unchanged was the rig count in U.S. at 585 for the fourth straight week (616 year ago).

Midland County was the only Permian Basin county to report an additional rig.  Its count is up for the fourth straight week to 30.  Lea (50) and Eddy (47) in New Mexico remain the leaders followed by Martin (down 1) and Reeves with 28 each, Loving with 22, Reagan with 13, and Upton and Ward each with 12.

No. 2 among regions is Eagle Ford Shale in south Texas with 48 (unchanged) followed by Williston with 35, Haynesville in east Texas and Louisiana with 32 (down 1), and Marcellus with 24 (up 1).  Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 44 (up 2) followed by North Dakota with 34 (unchanged) and Louisiana now No. 5 with 33 after losing 3 rigs.
