There was minimal activity last week among oil and gas drillers in Texas and New Mexico. Baker Hughes said as of Jan. 12 rig counts were unchanged in Texas at 308 (379 year ago) and New Mexico at 97 (103 year ago). Also, there were 309 rigs in Permian Basin (down 2 from 311 previous week, 356 year ago) and 619 in U.S. (down 2 from 621 week ago, 775 year ago).
Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 43 rigs (44 week ago, 64 year ago) followed by Louisiana with 42 (42 previous week, 67 year ago) and North Dakota with 33 (31 week ago, 39 year ago). Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions with 55 rigs (53 week ago, 73 year ago) followed by Haynesville with 43 (43 previous week, 68 year ago), Williston with 34 (32 week ago, 42 year ago) and Marcellus with 27 (28 week ago, 38 year ago).
North Dakota, Ohio and California were the only states that added rigs last week.
