Rig counts in U.S., Texas and Permian Basin remained flat in Baker Hughes’ weekly report of Oct. 25. There were 304 rigs in Permian Basin (313 year ago), 283 in Texas (311 year ago) and 585 in U.S. (625 year ago). New Mexico was one of only three major producing states to add a rig last week (up 1 to 100 in past week, also 100 a year ago). It was the fourth straight week for 304 rigs in Permian Basin.
Six of the top 11 counties in Permian Basin added rigs last week. Lea, N.M., is the Permian leader with 50 rigs (up 1) followed by Eddy, N.M., with 47, Martin with 28 (down 3), Midland with 27 (up 1) and Reeves with 26 (up 1). Others include Loving with 22 (down 2), Reagan, Upton (down 1) and Ward (up 1) each with 13, and Howard (up 3) and Andrews (up 3) each with 10.
Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 49 rigs (unchanged) followed by Williston with 34 (unchanged), Haynesville with 33 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 22 (down 1). Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 43 (up 1) followed by Louisiana with 36 (down 2) and North Dakota with 33 (unchanged).
