December 3, 2024 by PBOG

Baker Hughes’ rig counts in Permian Basin, Texas and New Mexico remained unchanged in the report of Nov. 27 for a week abbreviated by Thanksgiving holiday.  There were 303 rigs in Permian Basin (314 year ago), 281 in Texas (306 year ago), 102 in New Mexico (106 year ago) and 582 in U.S. (down 1 in previous week, down 43 from 625 year ago).  It was the fifth straight week for 303 rigs in Permian and seventh straight week without additional rigs in U.S.  High rig counts in 2024 are 629 in U.S. and 318 in Permian.

Rig counts also were unchanged among leading counties in Permian Basin.  Eddy (52 rigs) and Lea (47) in southeast New Mexico remain the leaders.  Others include Midland with 30, Reeves with 29, Martin with 28 and Loving with 21.  Reagan and Upton have 12 each, and Ward reported 10.

Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 48 (50 year ago) followed by Williston with 35 (33 year ago), Haynesville with 30 (39 year ago) and 25 in Marcellus with 25 (29 year ago).  Oklahoma remains No. 3 among states with 44 (up from 38 year ago), North Dakota with 34 (up from 32 year ago) and Louisiana with 30 (down from 41 year ago).
