The counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs in Permian Basin, Texas, New Mexico and U.S. all were down in the weekly report of April 11 by Houston-based services firm Baker Hughes.  It was the sixth straight week of decline in Permian Basin, which reported 289 rigs (down 5 from 294 a week earlier, down 27 from 316 a year earlier).  There were 274 rigs in Texas (277 last week, 294 year ago), 100 in New Mexico (101 last week, 109 year ago) and 583 in U.S. (590 last week, 617 year ago).

The Permian count is its lowest since December 2021.

Eddy County, N.M., is the Permian leader with another report of 51 rigs followed by Lea, N.M., down 1 to 46, Martin (down 3) and Reeves (up 3) with 25 each, and Midland with 23 (down 3).  Also, Loving has 19 rigs, Upton 17 and Ward 10.

Eagle Ford in south Texas is second among regions with 47 rigs (down 1) followed by Williston with 33 (unchanged), Haynesville with 31 (up 1) and Marcellus with 24 (down 1).  Among states, Oklahoma is third with 53 followed by North Dakota with 32 and Louisiana with 30 – all three unchanged from last week.
