RWE Clean Energy, a German energy company, is expanding its renewable energy assets in west Texas to meet rising demand from oilfield electrification and manufacturing and industrial growth. RWE said March 18 it is partnering with GE Vernova to secure 109 2.82-megawatt wind turbines for two projects near Big Spring that will provide a total of 308 megawatts of new and upgraded power capacity.
RWE’s four wind farm projects in west Texas are Honey Mesquite in Glasscock County (construction starts this year on new 181-megawatt wind farm), Forest Creek near Big Spring (repowering a 127-megawatt wind farm), Champion Wind in Mitchell and Nolan counties (upgrades include a 15-year power purchase agreement), and Panther Creek in Glasscock, Howard and Sterling counties (repowered this wind farm).
Kevin Kroll, COO, said, “RWE’s investments in west Texas symbolize our commitment to producing homegrown energy and strengthening U.S. manufacturing and supply chains through our partnerships with great American companies like GE Vernova.”
