Oslo-based research firm Rystad said April 9 associated wellhead gas flaring in major U.S. liquids regions, including Pemian Basin, posted another sequential decline in March. Permian flaring intensity fell to 1 percent as of January, but satellite data revealed a clear spike for February during the winter weather crisis before resuming a decline in March. “We will most likely see a reported flared gas volume for March similar to the January level,” the report said.
Rystad said flaring in Permian Basin declined from 300 million cfd in 2020Q4 to 270 million cfd in 2021Q1 – lowest since 2017. Rystad added, “All Permian sub-basins on the Texas side are seeing sequential declines in wellhead gas flaring while Delaware north (New Mexico) is the only major area with a modest increase.”
