U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) this week visited a production site of Diamondback Energy to view a demonstration of the emissions monitoring system of Champion X. Cornyn visited the site at Diamondback’s Spanish Trail field near Midland with Bill Nall, senior superintendent of production for Diamondback, and Shankar Annamalai, senior vice president of emissions technologies for Champion X.
The 73-year-old senator, who is expected to face an opponent in the 2026 Republican primary, told the Odessa American that reducing regulations will be a primary part of his upcoming campaign. “Seeing things here … using the best technology to improve air quality and improve the economics of the oil and gas industry has been eye opening.” He added, “The regulatory state made it hard for oil and gas companies operating in the Permian Basin to do what they do best, which is to produce energy (that) benefits not only Texans and Americans but also the world.”
