Dallas-based Sentinel Midstream said last month it started construction on Texas GulfLink, a deepwater crude oil export terminal about 30 miles off the coast of Freeport. It will be capable of fully loading very large crude carriers (VLCC) offshore and connect global markets to North American-produced crude oil. Funding is provided by the U.S.-Japan trade agreement. Sentinel will lead development and oversee construction, commercial operations and long-term management of the terminal.
Howard Lutnick, U.S. secretary of commerce, said May 5, “The milestone will bring jobs and acceleration to the Gulf of America for years to come, and I look forward to Japan and Sentinel Midstream’s progress ahead in delivering clean, affordable and efficient energy production to American consumers.” Jeff Ballard, CEO of Sentinel, added, “We are proud to be a trusted partner of both the U.S. and Japan governments and help lead the next chapter of American oil exports.”
U.S. Department of Transportation approved the license for Sentinel to build and operate Texas Gulflink in February.
