European oil major Royal Dutch Shell recently filed for six horizontal drilling permits in Permian Basin with the Railroad Commission of Texas, including three on leases in Winkler County managed by state-owned mineral rights company University Lands. Royalties from those three wells will benefit the University of Texas and Texas A&M University systems from the public account Permanent University Fund. Houston Chronicle said the six Shell wells will target Wolfcamp and Bone Spring in Winkler and Loving counties at depths to 12,300 feet.
The Chronicle also reported California oil major Chevron filed for 25 drilling permits, including 5 in Ward County to Wolfcamp and 20 in Midland County to Spraberry. And Midland company Blackbeard Operating plans to drill seven vertical wells to 9,000 feet on four leases in Crane and Winkler counties.
