Small gains in rig counts in past week in Permian Basin, Texas, U.S.

Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. posted small gains in counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs in the past week, according to Baker Hughes. As of July 2, there were 237 rigs in Permian (236 last week, 126 last year), 222 rigs in Texas (221 last week, 112 last year) and 475 in U.S. (470 last week, 263 last year). Rig count was unchanged in New Mexico at 75 (48 last year).

Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 52 rigs (52 last week, 31 last year) followed by Oklahoma with 27 (27 last week, 10 last year), Pennsylvania with 19 and North Dakota with 18. Haynesville remains runner-up among regions with 49 rigs (49 last week, 33 last year) followed by Eagle Ford with 32 (32 last week, 11 last year), Marcellus with 28, Williston with 18 and Cana Woodford with 17.

Lea County, N.M., still the most active county in Permian Basin, has 47 rigs (up 1 in past week) followed by Midland with 37 (down 1), Reeves with 28 (up 1), Eddy, N.M., with 27 (unchanged), Martin with 18, Loving with 16, Howard with 14 and Upton with 13.
