According to Baker Hughes, Texas added a rig last week to break its streak of 14 straight weeks of declining counts of active oil and gas rigs. As of June 26, Texas had 112 rigs (111 previous week, 464 previous year). The U.S. count fell for 16th consecutive week to 265 (266 previous week, 967 previous year), and Permian Basin’s count also declined by 1 in past week to 131 (441 year ago). And New Mexico idled 1 rig for a new total of 50 (99 year ago).
Eddy County, N.M., idled 1 rig in past week to remain the Permian leader with 30. Other top counties include Lea, N.M., with 20 rigs (unchanged in past week), Loving and Martin with 14 rigs each and Midland with 12.
Four other states have double-figure rig counts – Louisiana with 32, Pennsylvania with 22, and North Dakota and Oklahome with 10 each. Among regions, Haynesville is runner-up with 32 rigs followed by Marcellus with 27, Eagle Ford with 11 and Williston with 10.
