Texas led major producing states with a gain of 6 drilling rigs in the past week, according to the weekly report of Oct. 11 by Baker Hughes. Oklahoma was the only other state to add a rig. There were 304 rigs in Permian Basin (unchanged in past week, down 7 from 311 year ago), 285 in Texas (up 6 from 279 week ago, down 16 from 301 year ago), 99 in New Mexico (down 2 in past week, down 5 from 104 year ago), and 586 in U.S. (up 1 in past week, down 36 from 622 year ago). Texas’ gain of 6 was its largest since April 5, and New Mexico is below triple digits for the first time since Feb. 2.
Lea County, N.M., held its Permian leadership with 49 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Eddy, N.M., with 47 (down 1), Martin with 31, Reeves with 25 (down 2), and Midland and Loving (up 1) with 24 each. Also, Upton has 14, Reagan 13 (down 1), Ward 12 (up 1) and Howard 10.
Oklahoma (41) added a rig to list third among states followed by Louisiana (down 2 to 38) and North Dakota (unchanged at 33). Among regions, Eagle Ford in south Texas is runner-up with 49 (up 1) followed by Haynesville and Williston with 34 each and Marcellus with 23 (down 2).
