For the second time in a month, Texas added 6 drilling rigs in the previous week. Baker Hughes said in its weekly report of March 6 there were 236 active rigs in Texas – up 6 in the past week but down 45 or 16.01 percent from 281 a year ago. Texas also added 6 rigs in Baker Hughes’ report of Feb. 6. The state started the year with 232 active rigs.
Also as of March 6, there were 241 rigs in Permian Basin (up 1 in previous week, down 63 or 20.72 percent from 304 a year ago), 100 in New Mexico (down 2 in past week, down 5 in past year) and 551 in U.S. (up 1 in previous week, down 41 or 6.93 percent from 592 a year ago). U.S. oil-directed rigs increased by 4 in the past week to 411.
Haynesville in east Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana is second among regions with 53 rigs (up 1 in past week) followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 43 (up 3) and Marcellus and Williston with 27 each. Oklahoma is third among states with 45 rigs (unchanged) followed by Louisiana (down 1) and North Dakota (down 1).
