Count of active drilling rigs in Texas increased for the fourth straight week in the April 6 report from Houston-based Baker Hughes. And the rig count increased for the third time in the last four weeks in Permian Basin. There were 353 rigs in Permian Basin (352 previous week, 332 year ago), 377 in Texas (376 previous week, 342 year ago), 103 in New Mexico (104 previous week, 96 year ago) and 751 in U.S. (755 previous week, 689 year ago). Texas was the only major producing state that added at least one rig last week.
Eddy County, N.M., added 1 and leads Permian Basin with 55 rigs followed by Lea, N.M., with 47 (down 2 in previous week), Reeves with 42 (unchanged), Martin with 41 (up 1), Loving with 28 (up 1), Midland with 27 (unchanged), Howard with 20 (up 1), Upton with 19 (unchanged) and Reagan with 10 (up 1).
Oklahoma remains No. 3 among states with 58 (down 1 in past week) followed closely by Louisiana with 56 (down 1) and North Dakota with 40 (down 1). Eagle Ford is No. 2 among regions with 70 (unchanged) followed by Haynesville with 66 (unchanged), Williston with 41 (down 1) and Marcellus with 40 (unchanged).
