Texas adds to rig count, Permian and U.S. unchanged in Dec. 20 report

Rig counts in Permian Basin and U.S. were unchanged for the past week in the Dec. 20 report from Baker Hughes.  There were 304 rigs in Permian Basin (307 year ago) and 589 in U.S. (620 year ago).  Texas added a rig (up 1 to 285, down 21 from 306 year ago), and New Mexico lost a rig (down 1 to 103, up 5 from 98 year ago).

Eddy County, N.M., leads Permian Basin with 54 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Lea, N.M. (down 1 to 46), Midland (up 1 to 30), Reeves (unchanged at 28), Martin (down 1 to 27) and Loving (unchanged at 21).  Others include Upton with 13 rigs and Reagan and Ward each with 11.

Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions with 46 rigs (unchanged in past week, down 8 in past year) followed by Williston with 36 (unchanged in past week, up 4 in past year), Haynesville with 31 (unchanged in past week, down 13 in past year) and Marcellus with 24 (down 1 in past week, down 4 in past year).  Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 43 (unchanged in past week, down 1 in past year) followed by North Dakota with 35 (unchanged in past week, up 4 in past year) and Louisiana with 31 (unchanged in past week, down 11 in past year).
