Texas led all states in drilling rig count decline for the third straight week as of June 21, according to Baker Hughes. There were 463 active rigs in Texas – down 4 from the previous week and down 70 from a year ago. There were 439 rigs in Permian Basin (441 previous week, 474 previous year), 100 in New Mexico (101 previous week, 93 previous year) and 967 in U.S. (969 previous week, 1,052 previous year). The Texas count is lowest since January 2018. The Permian Basin count has fallen 10 percent since January 2019.
The counts as of June 21 in other leading states were 100 in Oklahoma (101 previous week, 138 previous year), 70 in Louisiana (70 previous week, 56 previous year) and 56 in North Dakota (56 previous week, 56 previous year). Counts in other leading regions as of June 21 were 73 in Eagle Ford (73 previous week, 82 previous year), 58 in Marcellus (58 previous week, 53 previous year), 56 in Williston (56 previous week, 56 previous year) and 53 in Haynesville (53 previous week, 53 previous year).
Reeves County, which leads the Permian Basin with 65 rigs as of June 21, gained 1 in the past week. Other Permian leaders are Eddy, N.M., with 53 rigs (down 1 in past week), Lea, N.M., with 44 (up 1), Midland with 41 (up 1), Loving with 32 (down 2), Martin also with 32 (down 1), Howard with 27 (down 2) and Pecos with 21 (unchanged).
