Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma were three of four states to report additional oil and gas drilling rigs in the past week. Baker Hughes in its weekly report of July 17 said Texas’ count is up to 274 after adding 2 rigs in the past week; Texas has added 21 rigs or 8.30 percent in the past year. Also, New Mexico has 96 rigs (up 2 in the past week, up 2 in the past year), and U.S. has 588 rigs (up 7 in the past week, up 44 or 8.09 percent in the past year). Texas’ streak since a decline is up to 14 weeks.
Permian Basin led regions with a gain of 3 rigs in the past week to 259 (down 4 in the past year from 263). Haynesville is runner-up with 55 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 47 (unchanged), Williston with 27 and Marcellus with 24.
Oklahoma is third among states with 50 rigs after adding 2 in the past week (up 8 in past year) followed by Louisiana with 37 (unchanged) and North Dakota with 24.
