Texas and all other major oil- and gas-producing states posted declines in rig counts for the week that ended April 18, according to Baker Hughes. Texas’ count was down 2 in the past week to 500 rigs (509 a year ago), and the U.S. count was down 10 to 1,012 rigs (1,013 a year ago). New Mexico held its No. 2 position with 105 rigs (unchanged in past week, 90 a year ago) followed by Oklahoma with 102 (104 previous week, 127 previous year), Louisiana with 63 (65 previous week, 58 previous year) and North Dakota with 61 (61 previous week, 52 previous year).
Permian Basin lost 1 rig in the past week for a total of 463 (453 a year ago). Other leading regions as of April 18 include Eagle Ford with 77 rigs (77 a week ago, 76 a year ago), Marcellus with 62 (62 previous week, 55 previous year), Williston with 61 (61 previous week, 53 previous year) and Haynesville with 54 (56 previous week, 52 previous year).
