Texas, Permian Basin add rigs in Baker Hughes weekly report

The weekly counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs from Houston-based oilfield services firm Baker Hughes posted modest gains in Permian Basin and Texas as of June 28.  Since the previous week, there were 2 additional rigs in Permian Basin to increase to 441 (474 a year ago), and 1 new rig in Texas for a total of 464 (530 a year ago).  The U.S overall count was unchanged at 967 (1,047 a year ago), but there were 4 additional oil-directed rigs (793 as of June 28, 858 a year ago).

Permian Basin’s most active county, Reeves, was unchanged with 65 rigs, Eddy, N.M., was down 1 to 52 rigs, Lea, N.M., was up 1 to 45, and Midland County was up 3 to 44 rigs.  Other basin leaders were Martin (up 2 to 34 rigs), Loving (down 1 to 31 rigs), Howard (up 2 to 29 rigs) and Pecos (unchanged with 21 rigs).

Rig counts in other leading states as of June 28 were Oklahoma with 102 (100 previous week, 140 year ago), New Mexico with 99 (100 previous week, 95 a year ago), Louisiana with 72 (70 previous week, 55 a year ago) and North Dakota with 55 (56 previous week, 54 a year ago).  Other leading regions were Eagle Ford with 71 rigs (73 previous week, 80 a year ago), Marcellus with 58 rigs (58 previous week, 53 previous year), Williston with 55 rigs (56 previous week, 54 a year ago) and Haynesville with 53 rigs (53 previous week, 50 a year ago).
