Texas Petro Index by petroleum economist Karr Ingham declined again in March to 181.8 for the 13th consecutive month. That represents a decline of 14.7 percent since the index of 213.3 a year ago in March 2019. Also in the past year, oil price (monthly average) was down 50.4 percent, natural gas price (first of month spot index) was down 40.1 percent, rig count was down 21.0 percent, drilling permits were down 34.6 percent, oil production volume was up 11.4 percent, gas production volume was up 10.3 percent, and total industry employment was down 8.7 percent. Base of 100 was January 1995 with peak of 313.9 in November 2014.
