The count of active drilling rigs in Texas declined in Baker Hughes’ weekly report of Jan. 16 for the fourth straight week. There were 228 rigs in Texas (down 2 in the past week and down 53 or 18.86 percent in the past year). Also, there were 244 rigs in Permian Basin (unchanged in the past week, down 60 or 19.74 percent in the past year), 102 in New Mexico (up 2 in past week, down 1 in past year) and 543 in U.S. (down 1 in past week, down 37 or 6.38 percent in past year).
The U.S. count included 410 oil-directed rigs (up 1 in past week, down 68 or 14.23 percent in past year) and 122 gas-directed rigs (down 2 in past week, up 24 in past year).
Oklahoma is third among states with 43 rigs (unchanged in past week and past year) followed by Louisiana with 39 (down 1 in past week, up 10 in past year) and North Dakota with 26 (unchanged in past week, down 6 in past year). Haynesville remains second among regions with 42 rigs (up 1 in past week, up 13 in past year) followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 40 (unchanged in past week, down 4 in past year), Williston with 28 (unchanged in past week, down 5 in past year) and Marcellus with 24 (unchanged in past week, up 1 in past year).
