Counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs increased for the second straight week in Texas and U.S. in the weekly report for Sept. 25 from Baker Hughes. Texas added 7 rigs to increase to 113, and U.S. added 6 rigs to increase to 261. In the past week Permian Basin added 2 rigs to reach 125, but New Mexico idled another 2 rigs for another 2020 low of 41 rigs. Texas had the largest increase among major producing states. Low counts reported in August were 117 for Permian Basin, 100 in Texas and 244 in U.S.
Eddy County, N.M., lost 3 rigs in the past week, but still leads Permian Basin with 22 rigs. Other leaders include Lea, N.M., with 19 (up 1 in past week) and Midland (up 3 in past week) and Martin (down 1) with 18 rigs each.
Rig counts in other leading states include Louisiana with 39 (up 1 in past week), Pennsylvania with 19 (up 1), Oklahoma with 12 (unchanged) and North Dakota in single digits with 9 (unchanged). And in other leading regions, there were 36 rigs in Haynesville (unchanged), 26 in Marcellus (up 1), 12 in Eagle Ford (up 3) and 10 in Williston (unchanged).
