For the first time since May 17, U.S. and Texas reported increases in count of active drilling rigs. Baker Hughes said in its weekly report of July 5 there were 585 rigs in U.S. (up 4 in past week, down 95 in past year) and 278 rigs in Texas (up 1 in past week, down 59 in past year). Also, there were 305 rigs in Permian Basin (unchanged last week, down 37 in past year) and 107 in New Mexico (unchanged last week, down 4 in past year). Permian last added a rig in Baker Hughes’ report of April 19 (up 2 to 318).
Eagle Ford was the only major producing region to add rigs last week (up 2 to 49). Others among the top 5 regions include Haynesville with 36, Williston with 35 and Marcellus with 25 – all three unchanged. Louisiana led states in gains (up 3 to 43), and it’s followed by Oklahoma and North Dakota each with 34.
Eddy County (unchanged at 52) and Lea County (unchanged with 51) continue to lead the Permian Basin in rig count followed in the top five by Martin with 31 (up 1), Reeves with 24 (unchanged) and Loving with 22 (unchanged). Midland County added a rig last week to report 19 followed by Reagan (unchanged) and Upton (down 1) each with 15, Howard with 12 (down 1) and Glasscock with 10 (unchanged).
