Oil and gas drillers in Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. returned to activity last week as Baker Hughes reported a gain of 10 drilling rigs in the U.S. as of June 26. That’s a gain of 26 or 4.75 percent to 573 from 547 a year ago. It’s the largest one-week gain in U.S. in four years since June 2022. The U.S. count is up 28 rigs or 5.14 percent this year.
Permian Basin added 2 rigs in the past week to 258 but is down 12 from the count of 270 a year ago. Texas added 7 rigs in the past week and 10 in the past year to 268. New Mexico’s count was unchanged at 97 (up 5 in past year).
Haynesville is No. 2 among regions with 55 rigs followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 44, Williston with 28 and Marcellus with 24 – all unchanged in past week. Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 46 (up 2) followed by Louisiana with 33 (down 2) and North Dakota with 26.
