U.S. added 3 rigs in the past week for 589 active oil and gas drilling rigs, according to the weekly report of July 26 by Baker Hughes. That’s down 75 from 664 a year ago. But Texas and New Mexico did not contribute to last week’s gain. Both were unchanged – Texas at 276 (322 year ago) and New Mexico with 108 (111 year ago). Permian Basin continued its streak of no new rigs to 14 weeks (down 1 to 304, 334 year ago).
Most Permian counties remain unchanged with Eddy County (53) and Lea (51) in New Mexico leading the basin. Other leaders are Martin with 31, Reeves with 26, Loving with 22 and Midland with 18. Also, Reagan and Upton have 14 each, and Howard has 12.
Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 41 (down 1) followed by Oklahoma (up 2) and North Dakota with 35 each. Eagle Ford remains No. 2 among regions with 50 rigs (up 1) followed by Williston with 36, Haynesville with 35 and Marcellus with 25.
