U.S. adds 6 rigs in past week to break streak of 9 weeks of declining rig count

U.S. rig count showed an increase of 6 rigs in the previous week to break a streak of 9 consecutive weeks of declines.  Baker Hughes said as of July 7 there were 680 rigs (674 previous week, 752 year ago) in U.S.  The count declined from 755 to 674 during that nine-week fall.  The count of 674 was the lowest since April 2022.

Also, there were 342 rigs in Permian Basin (341 previous week, 350 year ago), 337 in Texas (341 previous week, 361 year ago) and 111 in New Mexico (108 previous week, 112 year ago).

Louisiana, which led producing states by adding 7 rigs in the past week, is No. 3 among states with 50 rigs (65 year ago).  Other leaders include Oklahoma with 40 (40 previous week, 60 year ago) and North Dakota with 34 (34 previous week, 35 year ago).  Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions with 60 rigs (61 previous week, 68 year ago) followed by Haynesville in east Texas and Louisiana with 46 (44 previous week, 69 year ago), Marcellus with 35 (35 previous week, 38 year ago) and Williston with 34 (34 previous week, 38 year ago).

Lea County, N.M., with 57 rigs (up 1 in past week) and Eddy County, N.M., with 52 (up 2) remain the Permian Basin leaders followed by Martin with 46 (up 3), Midland with 36 (unchanged) and Reeves with 30 (down 4).  Others include Loving with 25 (up 3), Ward with 18 (unchanged), Upton with 12 (down 1), and Andrews and Reagan with 11 each.
