U.S. Energy Information Administration said last week total energy production in U.S. in 2025 increased to a record 107 quadrillion British thermal units. That’s an increase of 3.4 percent from the previous record set in 2024. Total production included record production in natural gas, crude oil, NGLs and renewables. It was the fourth straight year for a record.
Dry natural gas production grew more than 4 percent from 2024 to a record 39 trillion cubic feet per day in 2025 with most occurring in Permian, Haynesville and Appalachia. U.S. has been the largest producer of natural gas since 2011.
Crude oil production also set a record of 13.6 million b/d; it grew by 3 percent or 350,000 b/d compared with the record from 2024. Most of the production came from Permian Basin. U.S. remains the largest producer of crude oil.
