New Mexico widened its lead over Oklahoma as the No. 2 state in Baker Hughes’ weekly count of active oil and gas drilling rigs in U.S. In its July 26 report, Baker Hughes said New Mexico added 2 rigs in the past week for a new total of 109 (104 a year ago) while Oklahoma lost 2 rigs for a new total of 93 (137 a year ago). Texas has 454 rigs (454 last week, 524 last year), and U.S. has 946 rigs (954 last week, 1,048 last year).
In the Permian, Reeves with 64 rigs (up 1 in past week) and Lea, N.M., with 55 rigs (up 8 in past week) remain the leaders ahead of Eddy, N.M., with 50 (down 7), Midland with 44 (up 1), Martin with 37 (up 1), Loving with 30 (up 1), Howard with 28 (up 1) and Pecos with 22 (up 1).
Permian Basin had 443 rigs as of July 26 compared to 440 a week ago and 480 a year ago. Other leading regions include Eagle Ford with 66 (67 last week, 80 last year), Marcellus with 56 (58 last week, 55 last year) and Haynesville with 51 (51 last week, 48 last year). Other leading states include Louisiana with 62 (66 last week, 52 last year) and North Dakota with 47 (55 last week, 57 last year).
