Rig counts in Permian, Texas and U.S. posted small gains for the week ended Jan. 28, according to Baker Hughes. There are 293 rigs in Permian Basin (up 1 in past week, up 101 in past year), 284 in Texas (up 4 in past week, up 102 in past year), 94 in New Mexico (down 1 in past week, up 32 in past year) and 610 in U.S. (up 6 in past week, up 226 in past year). January was the 18th consecutive month of growth in U.S. rig count; the last month of declining rig count was July 2020.
Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 57 rigs followed by Oklahoma with 51, North Dakota with 27 and Pennsylvania with 23. Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 54 rigs followed by Eagle Ford with 50, Marcellus with 34, Williston with 27 and Cana Woodford with 26.
Permian leaders include Lea (55 rigs) and Eddy (35) counties in New Mexico followed by Midland (29), Reeves (24), Martin (23) and Howard (21) in Texas.
