Count of active drilling rigs in U.S. increased for the third time in the last four weeks, according to the weekly report of Nov. 7 by Baker Hughes. The U.S. count was 548 (up 2 in the past week but down 37 or 6.3 percent from 585 reported a year ago).
Also as of Nov. 7, there were 251 rigs in Permian Basin (unchanged from previous week, down 52 or 17.2 percent from 303 a year ago), 234 rigs in Texas (down 1 in past week, down 47 or 16.7 percent from 281 a year ago) and 103 rigs in New Mexico (unchanged from previous week, up 3 in past year).
Eagle Ford (down 1 rig to 42) and Haynesville (up 1 to 41) trail Permian Basin in rig count among regions followed by Williston with 30 and Marcellus with 23 – both flat. Among states, Louisiana is third with 43 rigs (up 2 in past week) followed by Oklahoma with 42 (flat) and North Dakota with 29 (flat).
