U.S. count of active drilling rigs returned to at least 500 rigs as of Sept. 10, according to Baker Hughes, after falling below 500 the previous week because of Hurricane Ida. There were 503 rigs in U.S. (497 previous week, 254 previous year), 254 rigs in Permian Basin (250 previous week, 124 previous year), 235 rigs in Texas (232 previous week, 105 previous year) and 82 rigs in New Mexico (82 previous week, 46 previous year).
Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 39 rigs (35 previous week, 37 previous year) followed by Oklahoma with 32 (32 previous week, 12 previous year) and North Dakota with 22 (22 previous week, 9 previous year). Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 48 rigs (48 previous week, 35 previous year) followed by Eagle Ford with 34 (35 previous week, 9 previous year), Marcellus with 26 (28 previous week, 24 previous year) and Williston with 23 (23 previous week, 9 previous year).
Eddy County, N.M., again is the Permian Basin leader with 50 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Lea, N.M., with 30 (unchanged), Midland with 28 (up 1), Martin with 25 (down 1), Reeves with 21 (down 2), and Howard and Loving with 16 each.
