Texas and U.S. added active oil and gas drilling rigs in the past week, according to the weekly report from Baker Hughes issued two days early Nov. 22 because of Thanksgiving holiday. There were 622 rigs in U.S. (up 4 in past week, down 162 in past year), 303 in Texas (up 1 in past week, down 69 in past year), 106 in New Mexico (down 1 in past week, up 1 in past year) and 311 in Permian Basin (unchanged in past week, down 41 in past year). U.S. count of oil-directed rigs was unchanged at 500.
Louisiana was No. 3 in rig count among states with 41 (up 2 in past week, down 25 in past year) followed by Oklahoma with 38 (up 1 in past week, down 32 in past year) and North Dakota with 31 (unchanged in past week, down 7 in past year). Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 50 rigs (unchanged in past week, down 21 in past year) followed by Haynesville with 39 (up 1 in past week, down 30 in past year), Williston with 33 (unchanged in past week) and Marcellus with 28 (up 1 in past week).
Lea County, N.M., is the Permian leader with 52 rigs (down 1 in past week) followed closely by Eddy, N.M., with 51 (unchanged). Other basin leaders include Martin with 40 (unchanged), Reeves with 26 (down 5), Midland at No. 5 with 25 (unchanged), Loving with 23 (up 2), Ward with 13 (up 1), Glasscock with 11 (unchanged) and Upton with 10 (down 1).
