U.S. and Texas each added jobs in energy services in August for the second consecutive month. Data from Houston-based Energy Workforce and Technology Council and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for August show 629,827 jobs in U.S. energy services, including 306,915 in Texas. That compares to 628,136 jobs in U.S. and 306,091 in Texas in July. Both posted declines in July, and both reported 2026 bests in May of 633,115 for U.S. and 308,519 for Texas.
The council said August jobs numbers demonstrated continued stability in the energy services workforce with “a year of relatively stable employment across the energy services sector.” Increases in the last two months “come as hiring strengthened considerably across the broader U.S. economy.”
Molly Determan, council president, said Sept. 8, “August’s increase is encouraging and continues the broader trend of workforce stability we’ve seen throughout the year. Companies are seeing opportunities for increased activity, but they continue to approach hiring with discipline.”
In August Louisiana (52,591 jobs) and Oklahoma (47,930) also increased, Colorado was unchanged in fourth (25,502), and New Mexico increased to 23,556 (from 23,492 in July and 23,459 in June).
