U.S. petroleum exports reached a record level in April as disruptions to international crude oil and refined product flows through the Strait of Hormuz increased global demand for U.S. exports. U.S. Energy Information Administration said Wednesday exports increased to 13.6 million barrels per day in April – an increase of 15 percent over the previous record in March.
Exports of crude oil made up the largest share of total petroleum exports, averaging 5.6 million b/d in April to top the previous record in December 2023 by 21 percent. Second largest share was propane, and third largest was distillate fuel oil.
EIA data indicate export strength continued in May and June. Shipments of crude oil, distillate fuel oil, jet fuel and propane remained above five-year seasonal averages in both months.
