Weatherford International, which operates in more than 80 countries with 700 locations, opened a new oilfield technology super center in Odessa June 13. Eight of Weatherford’s service lines in the region now will operate from one building. Mark Swift, president of the company’s western hemisphere division, said, “If you’re going to be a major player in oilfield services, you need to be here (in the Permian Basin).” The new center is one of Weatherford’s nine buildings on about 100 acres at the Odessa campus to support drilling, completions, production, wireline and intervention. Weatherford has 743 employees in Odessa, including 250 in the new technology super center.
