The largest wind farm in New Mexico was scheduled to go online about Jan. 1, 2021, as work on the project near the Texas-New Mexico border was completed. Associated Press reported Dec. 16 that Xcel Energy installed 240 turbines on Sagamore wind project in a $900 million project that spans 100,000 acres. It will be capable of producing enough energy for about 194,000 homes with 522 megawatts. Xcel officials said the utility’s goal is to be carbon-free by 2050.
Ben Fowke, CEO and chairman, said, “By 2024 we expect wind and solar will provide over half of the energy needs of New Mexico and Texas.”
Lawrence Rayburn says
While it is good economic policy for Texas to have Wind and Solar electric generation, they need to concentrate on MANUFACTURING wind turbines and solar PV panels IN Texas from our own resources
in state and EXPORT the equipment to other states and around the world where the need exists.
With Texas oil and gas reserves glut, we need to build MORE gas fired turbine generating facilities
and MORE LNG export terminals to sell our wares around the world to anyone who needs them.
IF we have to secede from the UNION as a result of Biden’s energy policies shutting down the oil and gas
E&P industry in Texas, we need to make the USA stand in line with other customers of the world to buy
energy from us……Restore the Republic of Texas Nation…!!
