Golden Pass LNG, the nation’s tenth liquefied natural gas terminal, shipped its first cargo from Train 1 this week. The shipment left port Wednesday 23 days after achieving first LNG production. U.S. Energy Information Administration said Golden Pass LNG is the nation’s only new LNG export facility expected to begin shipments this year.
Golden Pass LNG was developed as a joint venture of Qatar Energy (70 percent ownership) and ExxonMobil (30 percent). Train 2 is expected to start in the second half of 2026 and Train 3 in the first half of 2027.
Peak capacity of each liquefaction train is 0.8 Bcfd, and total peak capacity will be 2.4 Bcfd. Only two LNG export projects currently export more – Sabine Pass LNG at 3.6 Bcfd and Plaquemines LNG at 2.6 Bcfd.
