Google and its parent company Alphabet said Friday they will build three new data centers in west Texas in Armstrong and Haskell counties. One of the two data centers in Haskell County near Abilene will be paired with a new solar and battery storage plant to minimize the center’s impact on Texas’ electric grid. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said, “Texas is the epicenter of AI development, where companies can pair innovation with expanding energy. Google’s $40 billion investment makes Texas Google’s largest investment in any state and supports energy efficiency and workforce development. We must ensure that America remains at the forefront of the AI revolution, and Texas is the place where that can happen.”
Texas Tribune said there are 411 data centers in Texas – second only to Virginia.
