Austin-based NeuVentus, privately-owned owner, developer and operator of pipeline transportation and storage projects, said Tuesday it is expanding the initial phase of a natural gas storage project at its Texas Reliability Underground, a salt cavern in Liberty County. NeuVentus said Phase I now will include three natural gas caverns to raise the total capacity from 20 billion cfd to 28 billion cfd. Injection capacity will increase to 840 million cfd from 600 million cfd.
TRU’s initial phase also will include a natural gas pipeline header of 35 miles with 10 interconnections to inter- and intrastate natural gas pipelines.
Guy Ross, senior vice president, said, “Expanding TRU’s first phase is a direct response and a clear statement of our conviction in this market and in the TRU platform. More capacity gives TRU the scale to deliver maximum value, custom tailored storage solutions and exceptional connectivity at highly competitive rates.” Sam Porter, CEO, added, “The USA’s natural gas market overall has nearly doubled (post-shale) and natural gas pipeline capacity has grown by 50 percent, but natural gas storage capacity has grown by less than 10 percent… Salt caverns are unique among the large volume gas storage technologies in their ability to provide the needed scale and flexibility.”
