Texas’ count of active oil and gas drilling rigs declined for the second straight week while the U.S. count increased for the third straight week. Houston-based services firm Baker Hughes said as of Sept. 25 there were 281 rigs in Texas (down 2 in the past week, up 35 or 14.23 percent from 246 in the past year) and 599 rigs in U.S. (up 4 in the past week, up 50 or 9.11 percent from 549 in past year). It’s the first two-week decline for Texas since March.
Permian Basin reported a gain of 1 rig to 270 (up 17 or 6.72 percent from 253 a year ago), and New Mexico for the second straight week added 3 rigs (up 3 in the past year).
Haynesville reported 56 rigs for the second week followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 50 (down 1), Williston with 35 and Marcellus with 23. Third in rig count among states was Oklahoma with 52 (up 1) followed by Louisiana with 35 and North Dakota with 31.
