Rig counts decline in Permian Basin, U.S. for second straight week

Rig counts in Permian Basin and U.S. declined for the second straight week, according to Baker Hughes.  As of Aug. 12, there were 346 rigs in Permian Basin (347 week ago, 246 year ago), 372 in Texas (373 week ago, 232 year ago), 104 in New Mexico (unchanged in past week, 80 year ago) and 763 in U.S. (764 week ago, 501 year ago).  Rig count in Permian has declined by 3 so far this quarter.

Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions for fifth straight week with 72 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Haynesville with 69 (unchanged), Williston with 39 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 35 (down 3).  Oklahoma added a rig for 65 to lead Louisiana (up 2 to 64) and North Dakota (37) among states.

Lea County, N.M., added 6 rigs in the past week to widen its Permian lead with 61.  Eddy, N.M., still is runner-up with 40 rigs after dropping 6 last week.  Midland (32 rigs) had the biggest decline in Permian last week of 7.  Other leaders are Martin (up 4 to 31), Reeves (up 1 to 29), Loving (down 2 to 27), Upton (up 8 to 21), Howard (down 2 to 21), Ward (up 2 to 15) and Glasscock (up 3 to 12).
